ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic is a major health crisis that has changed the life of millions globally. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of the pandemic on mental health and quality of life among the general population in the Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. In response to this global health crisis, quarantine and lock down measures were implemented by international and government health organizations to control the rapid spread of the virus. Further measures included suspension of flights, avoidance of large gatherings, mandatory use of face mask in many countries, social distancing, teleworking, home - schooling of children and health orders to stay at home. The main aim of this study is to assess the impact of COVID-19 on quality of life among population. A Cross - Sectional Observational Study was conducted in Guntur for a period of 6 months (September 2021 - February 2022).The study was conducted through online after obtaining ethical clearance from the Institutional Ethics Committee. All the data under the inclusion criteria are included and assessed. The data was collected in the designed data collection form by using PSS scale. A total of 507 subjects met the inclusion criteria of the study. Based on the total score and level of perceivance 349 (68.83%) of participants had a high level of perceived social support followed by 125 (24.65%) of participants had a medium level of perceived social support and 33 (6.50%) of participants had a low level of perceived social support. The obtained result was analyzed using ANOVA two-wayanalysis and obtained 'P value' was found to be p = 0.0001 which is< 0.05, was accounted by the PSS score of the subjects. A social support is one of the significant factors to assess the Quality of Life, our data showed that there is a high level of perceived social support among the study subjects which could be an appropriate target to improve the Quality of Life among the population. ABSTRACT

The corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic, a zoonotic disease transmitted from bat to human originated in Wuhan, China, has rapidly spread to several countries, with various cases having been reported globally. The second wave of the corona virus is spreading like a tsunami and is growing at an alarming rate compared to the first wave. It has been seen that the mutant virus is more transmissible and its incubation period is shorter. This article mainly deals with the number of people affected in the 1st and 2nd waves of COVID-19 in India and other countries. The study included all the cases reported from March 3, 2020 - August 31, 2021. The condition of the USA is even more critical than India, Brazil, Russia, United Kingdom, France, Turkey, Argentina, Italy, and other countries. The US has reported the highest number of cases (38,802,453) while Colombia has reported the lowest number of cases (4,905,258).
